Local Fencing Services You Can Count On
New Fence Adelaide has been building and repairing fences across Adelaide’s southern suburbs for 9 years. Hackham is one of the areas we work in most, so we know the blocks, the ground and the council rules that apply here.
Most homes in the suburb are older houses on standard blocks. That means a lot of our work is replacing tired boundary fences, fixing storm damage and adding new gates. We also look after rentals, new builds and small business sites.

Our Range of Fencing Services
Whatever your needs, we have a fence to suit your home and budget. Here’s what we install most.
Colorbond Fencing
Colorbond is the most popular choice locally. The steel panels won’t rot, don’t need painting and come in a range of colours to match your house. A standard 1.8m boundary fence suits most blocks.

Which Fence Is Right for Your Home?
Here’s an honest look at the main options, so you can weigh up the pros and cons before you get a quote.
Colorbond
Best for privacy and low maintenance. It’s strong, won’t rot and lasts for decades. On the downside, styles are limited, panels can dent and they get hot in summer.
Aluminium Slat
Best for a modern front yard. It won’t rust and looks sharp. It costs more than Colorbond, and the gaps between slats mean less privacy.
Timber
Best for a natural look. Timber is easy to patch, but it needs staining every few years and has a shorter lifespan. Lots of our jobs are swapping an old timber fence for Colorbond or slats.
For large rural blocks, chainwire or security fencing is the cheaper option, but it gives you no privacy at all.
How Much Does Fencing Cost in Hackham?
A standard Colorbond boundary fence usually runs between $200 and $300 per linear metre. Under the Fences Act 1975 (SA), neighbours can often share the cost of a boundary fence, so you may only pay half.
| Fence Type | Typical Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Colorbond boundary fence | $200 to $300 per linear metre | Varies with height, colour and site access |
| Aluminium slat fencing | Priced on scope | Covered in your free quote |
| Fence repairs | Priced on scope | Depends on the extent of damage |
| Gates | Priced on scope | Depends on size, style and automation |
Height and Length
Taller fences and longer runs need more panels and posts.
Site Access and Slope
Tight side access or a sloping block adds labour, and some blocks need retaining walls sorted before the fence goes in.
Old Fence Removal
Taking out an old fence adds to the job. Older fibro fences can contain asbestos, which must be removed by a licensed asbestos removalist under SafeWork SA rules. We’ll flag this at the measure-up so there are no surprises.

Hackham Fencing FAQs
Do I need council approval for a new fence?
Usually not. The City of Onkaparinga says Colorbond fences up to 2.1 metres high don’t need approval in general residential areas. Fences within 6 metres of a street corner must stay under 1 metre, and anything taller needs a development application. We’ll confirm what applies to your block.
What fencing material suits Hackham homes best?
Colorbond suits most homes here, as it’s low maintenance and gives full privacy. Aluminium slats are popular for front yards. We’ll recommend the right one once we’ve seen your block.
How long does fence installation take?
Most standard boundary fences only take a day or two on site. We’ll give you a realistic timeline after the measure-up.
How much does Colorbond fencing cost?
Most Colorbond jobs fall between $200 and $300 per metre, depending on height, colour and site access. Your neighbour may also share the cost.
Do you service areas near Hackham?
Yes, we also cover Hackham West, Huntfield Heights, Morphett Vale, Onkaparinga Hills and other southern suburbs.
Can you help with insurance claims?
Yes, we provide photos, notes and itemised quotes to support your claim.
Is there a dog-proof fence option?
Yes. A full-height Colorbond fence with a plinth along the bottom stops most dogs digging under or seeing through. Tell us about your dog when you enquire and we’ll suggest the right height.
What's the difference between Colorbond and aluminium slat fencing?
Colorbond is a solid steel panel fence, great for privacy, strength and a clean modern look. Aluminium slat fencing uses spaced vertical slats, so it lets in more airflow and light while still giving good screening. Both hold up well in Hackham conditions, it comes down to whether you want full privacy or a more open, designer look.
What's the best time of year to install a fence?
Autumn and spring are ideal, as the ground is easier to dig and concrete footings cure well. We install all year round, but booking ahead of summer helps you skip the busy season.
What types of pool fencing are available in Australia?
The main types are frameless glass, semi-frameless glass, aluminium tubular and aluminium slat. Every pool fence in South Australia must meet Australian Standard AS 1926.1, so check the SA Government pool and spa safety rules before you build.
How do I choose a reputable fencing company in Adelaide?
Look for a clear written quote, real Google reviews, photos of past jobs and a business that explains exactly what’s included. Be wary of anyone who wants full payment upfront or won’t put the price in writing.
